... You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. ... And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

Wonderful book - City of Djinns

This is an amazing book I read on my flight and wait at the airports on my return from Milan to Chennai. William Dalrymple has described Delhi and its history beautifully. This book means much to me. The longest period (5 years) I stayed anywhere in my nomadic life is in Delhi. However, this is a must read for anyone interested in the British Raj, the Mughals, the history of Delhi or to just read a good book. Though the book is classified as a travelogue, his writing style is simple, filled with humour and much better than reading a novel. I learnt much about Delhi and its history after reading this book.

I now wish to read his other books, The Age of Kali, White Mughals and his latest The Last Mughal.

City of Djinns I highly recommend.
